St. Bernadette's is, by any standard, a young church, in a relatively new district of a very old town. Part of the heritage of this 1960 church designed by Architect Tom Mellor is its high quality art work with pieces by John Piper, Michael Clarke and John Bunting.

As you enter the church you can see a statue of St. Bernadette carved in stone.

A stained glass window in the chapel on the theme of "Christ at Emmaus" is by Patrick Reyntiens.
As a powerful focus in the sanctuary, a large mural of Christ in glory flanked by angels had been created by John Piper.
The altar, with a Westmorland Green slate top, was designed by David John and has in the base, stone salvaged from side chapel altars.
Stations of the Cross carved in stone by Peter Watts surround the worship area.
In reordering, the font with a handsome hardwood cover, was moved from the old baptistry to a new one nestling in concave steps .....
