We think there are many reasons why you might want to send your child to St. Bernadette's School. We believe that all children are special, and our dedicated and caring staff can provide the best possible start for the children in our Infant Department. Here, we aim to help your child learn in a fun and imaginative way, whilst encouraging their independence, creative and social skills. The Junior department offers pupils opportunities to benefit from a rich and varied curriculum, and to explore, develop and expand their talents, thus raising their self esteem and preparing them for the next stage of their education, wherever it may be.

As well as computers in every classroom, both the Infant and Junior Department each have their own computer suite with internet access; which the children are given plenty of opportunity to use, under supervision, during school time and before and after school. The Infants also have their own interactive white-board, and the juniors have projectors linked to PCs in each class. We are constantly reviewing and updating our IT equipment and our own expertise.

Our attractive grounds include gardens which we use with good effect in scientific and artistic studies; and a purpose built outdoor play area where the children can develop physically, in safety. We place a great importance on respect for all people whether they are pupils, teachers or visitors to school, and children are encouraged to care for one another and extend a friendly welcome to all.

What else do we have to offer?

• We teach conversation French to all the children from Reception Class to Year 6.

• We have a Breakfast Club every morning from 8.00am, and a thriving After School Care Club, where your children will be well looked after by our trained staff.
• Thanks to a variety of after school activities run by staff and parents, we have successful netball, football, rounders and athletics teams, and an excellent choir. The children can also enjoy cricket in the summer.
• There are opportunities to learn to play a variety of musical instruments and to perform to an audience at our musical evenings. We value a very active Friends Association which supports the school in every possible way, and has organised many successful social and fund raising events over the years.
• We can offer cycling proficiency and First Aid courses to pupils in Year 6, both of which provide them with valuable skills.
• we have a gardening club, which is still in its infancy, but promises to be an asset both to the school and the children's own gardens!

What about children with special needs?

As we really do believe all children are special we pride ourselves on doing our utmost to cater for all our children's special needs. We have a highly motivated team of support staff with considerable experience who work throughout the school, and as we support Equal Opportunities we believe in challenging and extending children as well as supporting them.

We benefit greatly, as a school, from our close links with St. Martin's College, and have been privileged, over the years to work with specialists in music, French, ICT, and drama. Thereby giving our pupils an even richer school experience.
